Project objective:
To prevent the decline of narrow-leaved ash forests in the Danube region by providing new strategies and guidelines for forest management and conservation of this type of tree, both in commercial and protected alluvial forests of the Danube area.
Planned activities:
- To overview the current and past status of narrow-leaved ash in the partner countries.
- Develop a strategy/action plan and guidelines for the sustainable management and conservation of narrow-leaved ash forest resources, including improvement of natural regeneration by enhancing seed production and addressing factors affecting fruiting patterns and germination.
- Establish a monitoring network, based on new technology capable of automatically generating real-time tree vitality dana.
- Develop guidelines providing best practices for plant selection, propagation and establishment of plantations
- Increase and share science-based knowledge among government agencies, conservation officers, national parks, forestry companies and private forest owners
Expected results:
- Interpretation and improvement of knowledge on the past and current status of the narrow-leaved ash in the Danube region
- Improvement of the management and conservation of the species throughout the thematic region
- Implementation of a new monitoring system and breeding strategies to improve the vitality and conservation of the narrow-leaved ash in the partner countries.
