Project implementation area:
the counties of Zadar, Šibenik-Knin, and Split-Dalmatia, Croatia.

Project objective:
Restoration and conservation, as well as the achievement of a favourable conservation status of overgrown grassland habitat types and associated species on forest land within part of the Natura 2000 ecological network.
Contribution to the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030: Through the restoration of degraded ecosystems, the protection and restoration of species and habitats, and the mitigation of climate change.
Planned activities:
- Restoration of degraded ecosystems, which, in addition to restoring and conserving overgrown grassland habitat types and associated species on forest land within part of the Natura 2000 network, will also help prevent the occurrence of wildfires, one of the greatest threats to forest ecosystems.
- Capacity building, which will strengthen the professional knowledge and expertise of Croatian Forests employees.
- Project management, which will ensure the high-quality and timely implementation of the project.
- Project communication and visibility activities, aimed at presenting the project’s contributions and achievements to the professional, scientific, and wider public
Expected results:
- Improved conservation status of grassland habitat types and associated species across 3,860.91 hectares
- Wildfire prevention and protection measures implemented across 3,860.91 hectares
The amount of grants from the European Regional Development Fund:
5,582,423.83 EUR
